Golden City

(This part of the movie My Globe Upside Down was filmed from the 28th of February till the 2nd of March)

If you´re going to San Francisco... lalala. For me being in San Francisco was like being part of one of those dozens of movies that I have seen from this beautiful city (Bullet, Vértigo)...
The steep hills, particular sign of identity of this californian city, the inmense body of the Golden Gate... and so many other things to see and do.

The first day Guillermo and I walked so much that we couldn´t even feel our feet at the end of the day, for those who know SF we walked from the Ferry Building to the Golden Gate and back... well we are poor backpackers and have to save money on the quite expansive city transport ;-). On our way to the Golden Gate we stopped at the Pierre nº 39 and ate a sandwich watching Alcatraz... we heared a lot of weird noises and were like:¨wow the seagels here make a lot of noise¨... but what when we finished and turned the corner we suddenly had this beautiful picture in front of us, what we heared were not seagels but beautiful sea lions, I have never seen sea lions in wilderness and I assure you that we couldn´t stop taking pictures and just standing there and watching them.

On our third day in SF, Guillermo´s cousin Belen joined us on our adventure for about two weeks. We stayed at their uncel´s house near by SF, we had such a GOOD TIME and we are pretty sure that nobody will take such a good care of us and make such a good meals during the rest of our trip. We had a great time, thank you unlce Louis, aunt Emma and Lissy.

Let´s talk a little bit about the Golden Gate... how could we describe it with just one word?? It is a challenge. I could find so many words to describe it... strength, length (8,981 feet), history, a pride of a city... and much more. We photographed it from all the angles... from the beach, the mountain... We really wanted to cross this beautiful bridge on a bike but we had to make do with crossing at least the half of it by foot. Ok here comes a funny anecdote... the bridge has two lanes on both sides for bikes and pedestrians. So we started
walking, jumping, making photos of each other and simply just happy of feeling this big body underneath our feet. After about five minutes a loudspeaker that sounded like coming out of the bottom of the earth started advising that we return immediately becuase we were on the side reserved for the bicycles. We froze at the spot and were like: ¨whaaaat??¨ Well we returned to the correct side and continued enjoying this historical bridge.

Talking about the history, the bridge was constructed during the Great Depression thanks to an engineer and bridge-builder Joseph Strauss. The construction began in 1933 in the spirit of the now familiar Art Deco design. The Golden Gate lost only ¨12 lives¨, an outstanding accomplishment.
May 28, 1937: Bridge open to automobiles.

We are doing a lot of photos, but we spend so little time with the computer that we really don´t have much time to do a good post processing so we will upload them to the blog as soon as we can...

To be continued... next part: more about San Francisco

If you´re going to San Francisco... lalala.
