Mr. Mojo Risin

Gracias Nicole.

This time it´s my turn to write! We just got into the bus that will take us to San Francisco from Los Angeles. City that surprised us much more that we were expecting and for moments we really believed in the American dream.

Let´s start at the begining. When we arrived to LA we went directly to pick up the rental car, essential in LA along with the GPS, that our couch host lent to us, Jawn deserves a special post for him for being so nice to us, we enjoyed the time with him so much!! As some of you already know, the car rental offered us a Ford Mustang convertible for a little more money than the original little car. They didn´t even give us time to respond when the agent asked us: ¨Red or White?¨ showing them to us parked outside, there we saw two sparkling clean beautiful Mustangs. Somebody would have said NO?? We picked the red one.

After all that we went to Jawn´s house, personaly for me it is incredible that somebody takes you in during four days without knowing you, but even more incredible is that they leave you the key and you are able to take a nice shower and feel ¨at home¨ until the host comes back home from work. To sum up we were in LA, alone at our couch host´s  home with the Mustang parked at the door!! The only thing that was missing were the Cohen brothers shouting: ¨cut, print, that´s a wrap!¨

I don´t want to bore you with all that has to be seen in LA, but I do want to tell you some of our experiences.

We visited a beautiful residentional zone at Venice Beach, little houses surrounded by canales, thats why ¨Venice¨. Incredible little houses of one, two or three floors with their little garden and their boat moored in front. Fairy tale houses. Nothing to do with what we saw the next day in the Hollywood hills. On Sundays you can find a lot of  ¨Open House¨, houses that are on sale and they are opened to the public, to attract possible buyers. But there are also a lot of people (like us) that have a fun Sunday afternoon visiting beautiful Open Houses… We visited a couple of them to see how the rich people live and our head started to spin of the envy that we had of the ones that can afford these kind of houses. We were really shocked about one in particular, a 3,5 million dollar mansion (it seemed actually cheap). The tipical celebrity house that needs privacy, hidden behind huge trees on top of a steep hill that even the Mustang had problems going up. Having a beautiful view of a luxury swimming pool from the bedroom, a authentic ¨Martini room¨, poker table for the Sunday afternoons with the friends… a paradise. I think that I will never visit a house like this again. There is a anecdote to the 3 million dollar house. When we entered, the real estate agent asked us what we were looking for and how much did we want to spend. Nicole, able to find a way out of all the uneasy situation and with a very ¨posh¨accent responded that we were looking for a house for her mom and that she is planning to spend around 4 million dollars. The fact of listening to your girlfriend inside a mansion telling the agent that she plans on spending 4 million dollars it´s like… like… I don´t even know what to say!!

The best for the end, like I do with the food.

As you know I idolize Jim Morrison, The Doors and everything that has something to do with him. Yeah, I´m a groupie…and where were we? In LA, the cradle of The Doors and Jim Morrison. We visited Venice Beach with the huge Morrison graffiti. The Whiskey A GO GO situated on Sunset Strip, where if I remember correctly they played in concert at this bar with Morrison singing facing the band and not the public because he was really shy at the begining of his career. I was really shocked about being able to be there and see the stage. But I was even MORE SHOCKED about being able to visit the room number 32 at the ¨Alta la Cienega¨ motel where the Rey Lagarto slept and wrote inside the closet. What I felt between those four walls is indescribable.

Thank you Nicole.
